Chandigarh, February 14

The 52nd national convention of the annual body of speech and hearing professionals organised by the Department of Otolaryngology, PGIMER, and the Chandigarh branch of the Indian Speech and Hearing Association (CISHA) started here today.

More than 700 delegates from across the world are participating. Senior faculties discussed the vision and the call of action in the field of speech and hearing. Later, three parallel conferences on audiology, speech and language were held.

The audiology workshop focused on auditory processing disorders, using auditory tests to explore cochlear function, cortical auditory evoked potentials, genetic basis and management of tinnitus and cross modal compensatory plasticity.

Sessions in speech had intriguing lectures on voice therapy, childhood stutters, swallowing problems in cerebral palsy and nutritional aspects in dysphagia.

After the lectures, there were oral presentations on speech pathology by researchers from across the country. There were two parallel panel discussions one on the value of building team approach to treat APD and the other on participation in aphasia rehabilitation. TNS
