Boost for West Norfolk respiratory and heart care – KLFM 96.7

West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has invested in better services in these departments, in order to cut down on the number of people going to hospital, put more money into community services and deliver better outcomes for patients.

The current Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease & Oxygen Service will expand into a new Respiratory Service, which will offer an improved, patient-centred and responsive specialist nursing service for people with respiratory conditions across West Norfolk.

The heart failure nursing team will be bigger, and they'll be working closely with GPs to offer early treatment and give better support.

This will mean patients are better able to manage their long-term conditions at an earlier stage, giving them a better quality of life.

There's also more staff in the Cardiac Assessment and Liaison Service, meaning more patients can be assessed as they arrive at the QEH Hospital in King's Lynn with chest pain.

The service identifies high risk patients, meaning that patients are managed in the right environment.

Eileen Peters, Heart Failure Specialist Nurse at NCH&C, said:

"This is a really exciting time working within the Cardiac Team at Norfolk Community Health and Care.

The new investment has allowed the teams to develop services to be more responsive to patients and to support patients to better understand and manage their conditions."

The improvements to these areas have been made after discussions and feedback with patients about their experiences.

Roger Smith, Joint Chair of the King's Lynn Breathe Easy group, said:

"Our Breathe Easy group has valued being involved.

"We feel that providing patients an opportunity to contribute to care ownership of their respiratory condition, with the ability to use their experience, good, or bad, to help improve the care of others is empowering."

The group meets at Gaywood Church Rooms in King's Lynn on the last Monday of the month from 1.30-3.30pm.
