Last year's My Kitchen Rules winners Dan and Steph Mulheron have something else celebrate, with news they are expecting their first child.

The Queensland couple have spoken publicly about their struggles to conceive and pledged they would spend their $250,000 prize money on IVF treatments.

Just over a year later and the cooks' dream has come true, with Steph recently reaching the 12-week milestone of her pregnancy.

A friend told New Idea the pair were over the moon at the prospect of becoming parents. "They've been trying for ages and now they're finally pregnant and they're so happy," the pal said.

"Everyone is really happy about it. They've been dreaming of this for a long time and it's amazing that it's become a reality."

The couple tried to conceive naturally for five years before finding out Steph's fallopian tubes were blocked. They later saved $15,000 for their first IVF treatment, only for it to fail. "It's been an emotional, physical and financial rollercoaster," the 32-year-old previously told the magazine.

"Anyone who's been through gruelling IVF treatment will understand."

The couple's prize money helped them pay off their loans from their first round of fertility treatments and set themselves up for the future.

The hard-working duo also opened a waterfront cafe in Hervey Bay, EAT @ Dan and Steph's, earlier this year and revealed they had shed 20kg between them in a bid to get fit before they became parents.
