Some antiviral drugs that are used today to treat coronavirus infections can affect the heart and liver, Interfax reported referring to the Russian cardiologist Philippe Paleev.

The specialist noted one cannot take antiviral drugs without a doctors prescription.

According to the expert, there is no reliable data that people with heart diseases are more likely to get COVID-19, but the infection can aggravate the course of chronic diseases, including heart diseases, which is why such patients are at risk.

It is no coincidence that the majority of coronavirus victims had concomitant pathologies, such as coronary heart disease, chronic heart failure, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and others.

According to the cardiologist, in general, patients with cardiovascular diseases have a more severe coronavirus infection due to exacerbations. He urged such patients to follow the recommendations on self-isolation, hygiene, and the use of personal protective equipment. He also recommended that such people regularly measure blood pressure and record indicators in a diary, and if there are significant deviations from the usual data, contact a doctor.
