Fordham University’s Dr. Christina Greer presents 27th annual lecture honoring Arthur Ashe’s mission to end disparities in medicine – Amsterdam News

The Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University hosted the Legacy of Arthur Ashe in the 21st Century lecture, on Wednesday Dec. 4.

It was the 27th annual event held to honor Ashes leadership in fighting disparities in health care.

The lecture was presented by Dr. Christina Greer, an associate professor of political science and American studies at Fordham University and an outspoken advocate in the fight to end racial disparities in health care and in all public services. Dr. Greer was the 2018 fellow for the McSilver Institute for Policy at New York Universitys Silver School of Social Work and recipient of the 2018 Fordham University Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. She conducts critical research centered on racial and ethnic politics.

This years lecture specifically addressed how the ongoing work of medical professionals, educators, advocates and public officials must shift to meet the unique needs of both patients and students in the modern healthcare ecosystem.

This 27th annual memorial lecture was hosted by the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health at SUNY Downstate, at the Downstate Health Sciences University, School of Public Health Academic Building.

The Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health was founded by Arthur Ashe in 1992, just two months before his death, to address longstanding gaps in health care services and education for communities of color and has helped foster critical research and awareness partnerships to improve health care both across New York City and nationwide.
