Greys Anatomy': Meredith Needs To Be More Grateful For Dereks Love

If the season premiere of Greys Anatomy left you annoyed at the shows protagonist, Meredith, then you are not alone.She needs to stop being so selfish, and she definitely needs to give Derek a break!

On theSept. 25 season premiere of Greys Anatomy,Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is openly concerned about her marriage surviving Dereks (Patrick Dempsey) decision to move to Washington, D.C. without her and their children. However, when he finally changes his mind, she storms off as if its the worst news shes ever heard. Why is she being so ungrateful?

Advanced warning: if you have not yet watched the season 11 premiere of Greys Anatomy, stop reading right now! Spoilers ahead!

Early on in the episode we learn that Derek has accepted the presidents job offer in Washington, D.C. and that he intends to move all the way across the country, leaving his wife, Meredith, and their two young children in Seattle, Washington.

Its heartbreaking to hear, and Meredith is clearly concerned about it because she tells Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) that she doesnt think her marriage can survive the distance. Shes probably right.

However, throughout the episode Derek keeps running into situations that remind him he has decided to leave his entire family. Each time, you can see its hitting him hard, and you can tell he is already regretting his decision.

At the very end of the episode, Derek tracks down Meredith in the bar across the street from the hospital to tell her that hes changed his mind. He tells her, I choose you and the kids. Im staying.

You would think Meredith would be thrilled, ecstatic, and jumping for joy, right? Instead, shes livid and she accuses him of changing their plans. In fact, she storms off to the bar to get a shot of tequila because shes so upset about his decision to stay.

Um, what?We all knew that Meredith could be a little selfish, a little ungrateful, and that she has a hard time showing emotions of the joyous variety. But this? This is too much, even for her.

For Meredith and Derek shippers, this is not a great way to start the season. They were finally where we all wanted them to be: happy, married, parents, living in their dream house, doing their dream jobs. So, whats going on?
