Outgoing Grey's Anatomy actress Tessa Ferrer has signed up for a role on new CBS summer drama Extant.
According to TVLine, Ferrer will play an astronaut, on a recurring basis alongside Halle Berry.

Ferrer is set to play Katie Sparks in her new role, who is described as an athletic, intelligent astronaut. The character will apparently contend with an unimaginable horror forcing her to make a tough decision.
The thriller centres on Berry's astronaut, who returns from a year away in space and struggles to reintegrate with family life back on Earth. However, her experiences bring on events that will have a greater impact on the human race.
Extant is expected to debut on CBS from Wednesday, July 9 at 9/8c.
