IVF will no longer be available on the NHS for most people

IVF treatment will nowbe restricted to people with conditions likely to make them infertile, after a decision made by the Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning group yesterday (September 25).

People struggling to conceive naturallyin the Mid Essex CCG's catchment area will no longer be entitled to free rounds of IVF, after a vote at Braintree Town Hall yesterday by members of the organisation.

The treatment, which can cost up to 5,000 for each cycle, will now be restricted to people considered 'at risk', or those with conditions likely to make them infertile, such as cancer.

It follows consultation by the CCG into ways to balance the books, with a need to save 8m by April next year.

Infertility Networkhave saidthe cuts would "let many fertility patients down".
