GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) -- Officials with the Muscular Dystrophy Association have released the final fundraising totals for the 2019 Tomahawk Fall Ride, calling this year's event a success.

"We had over $101,000 [raised] over the three-day weekend, which is awesome," said Abby Forcey with the MDA. She adds that most of that total will stay in Wisconsin.

"It's going to send our local children to our Wisconsin MDA summer camp, as well as funding our MDA care centers which are located all over the state," she said.

In addition to funding those causes, the national MDA organization has helped fund breakthrough research thanks to events such as this. "We've had eight medicines approved in the last four years alone.

"We've had people walking for the first time, hugging their parents or their friends for the first time because of these medicines. So to continue to fund the research to find a cure is huge right now," said Forcey.

The Tomahawk Fall Ride is in its 38th year and has raised more than $2 million during that time. Forcey says the event benefits from the die-hard motorcycle crowd along with those families impacted by the disease who use the event to connect.

"We're both fighting for freedom and independence for everyone, that includes our families living with neuromuscular disease. That's really special too."

The 2020 Tomahawk Fall Ride is tentatively set for September 17th through the 19th.
