Birth control pills revolutionised the way people had sex and was even linked to womens sexual liberation in the 1960s because of the freedom it gave people to have sex without the fear of pregnancy. But the long-term effects of oral contraceptive pills are poorly understood, and recent scientific findings show the pills might actually be making one area of the brain, the hypothalamus, smaller. The study, presented today at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, included 50 healthy women, 21 of whom were taking oral contraceptive pills, or OCPs. Continue reading
