WASHINGTON (Dec. 26, 2014) - Wearable technologies, possible changes to stenting practices, state legislation on energy drinks, expanded use of minimally invasive heart repair procedures, and the development of a new class of cholesterol lowering drugs are among top stories anticipated in cardiology in 2015. Leaders from the American College of Cardiology identified the following issues likely to make the news in the new year: Wearable technologies for health care monitoring - Wearable technologies to monitor a person's health outside their physician's office will play an increasing role in health care as these devices and software grow in sophistication and usage and medical professionals incorporate readings from the devices into office visits. The Apple Watch made the news in September. The watch can measure pulse rate and use sensors to track length and type of exercise. Paired with a new app, it can combine data from various wearable devices and share it directly with a patient's doctor. Microsoft's Band, the Fitbit and Garmin are already popular with consumers looking to better track their own health, and usage of these will grow along with innovation in this area. According to TVLine, Shonda Rhimes is romantically stitching together Owen (Kevin McKidd) with another scrub-donning doctor when Greys Anatomy returns for the second-half of Season 11 on Thursday, Jan. 29. Any guesses on which Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital employee will win over the heart of Cristina Yangs (Sandra Oh) former beau? Heres a hint: she Dereks (Patrick Dempsey) sister and currently the Head of Neurosurgery. Thats right! Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will be cozying up to Owen when the hit ABC drama returns in 2015 (thanks to a little push from Callie [Sara Ramirez]) and we cant exactly say were surprised. A woman who was subjected to a bullying ordeal due to her severe eczema has hit back against her tormentors - by being becoming a top beauty queen. Shelley-Marie Sumner, 23, endured daily taunts of 'snake skin' throughout school due to the condition which affected her face and body and it left her desperately under-confident and considering self-harm. But the dance teacher refused to cower away after she left school and when her eczema eased off she entered a local beauty pageant at the suggestion of her boyfriend. Now she has had the last laugh after she was crowned Miss Black Country and went on to compete in the Miss England pageant. Shelley, from Walsall, West Midlands said: "I was picked on every day at school because of my eczema and it shattered my confidence. I never dreamed I would have the courage to enter a beauty pageant, let alone win, but I've finally shown the bullies that their words won't hold me back any more."
