Childrens hospital bus ads expose a dialogue about autism

Posted: Published on July 14th, 2013

Matt Young was trying to make me understand. Remember that picture of the hearing on abortion and all the people on the panel were men? he asked. Oh, yeah. Where were the women? I remember thinking when I saw that picture of a U.S. House hearing several weeks ago. It didnt feel good. But Youngs point wasnt about abortion, it was about how, too often, people with autism are left out of societys response to autism spectrum disorder. Young is the co-leader of the Autistic Self Advocacy Networks Washington chapter, which raised a ruckus last week over some ads created for Seattle Childrens Research Institute that appeared on some Metro buses. Next to the photo of a child were the words: Lets wipe out cancer, diabetes and autism in his lifetime. Young, who has autism, viewed the ad as an affront to his identity. ASAN is an organization run by and for autistic people. Among its many aims is to engage the community about issues of inclusion and respect for neurodiversity. Cure someone of cancer or diabetes, and the person remains mostly unchanged, Young said. But wipe out the autism, and the person would be fundamentally different. That, right there, … Continue reading

Online help from Delhi saves doctor’s life

Posted: Published on July 14th, 2013

Without divulging the name of the patient in Kota, Delhi-based neurologist Dr Arun Garg said that he had received information that a doctor in Kota suffered a stroke two days ago. "He wanted to rush to Delhi for treatment. But Kota is quite far from Delhi and hence we did not advise him to come to Delhi," Dr Garg said, who was in Jaipur on Sunday. He said, "We call the first three to four hours after stroke a golden period. If the patient reaches hospital within three-four hours, his treatment is possible. Since we do not have time to call the patient to Delhi, we asked them to send the CT scan and other reports through a social networking site. We also saw the condition of the patient on webcam." Dr Garg claimed that the doctors have three-four hours to dissolve the blood clot in the brain. If three-four hours passed, then the patients' life is always at risk and he could become disabled. After going through the reports, the doctors in Delhi advised him drugs to dissolve the clot. The doctors claimed that the patient recovered within two hours. Moreover, Dr Garg claimed that a research is in … Continue reading

Frustration over death of patient

Posted: Published on July 14th, 2013

July 15, 2013, 7:35 a.m. Source: The Herald Unfair pressures on medical staff to discharge patients from hospital in time to meet treatment targets have been blamed for contributing to the death of an elderly grandmother. Kathleen Hawes said her 79-year-old mother, from Carey Bay, was moved four times between three hospitals in the weeks leading up to her death in August 2011. Ms Hawes is calling for a series of changes after a two-year battle with the Health Care Complaints Commission and Hunter New England Health. She said a series of failures relating to hospital shuffling, nursing care, delayed diagnosis and failure to adhere to resuscitation procedures contributed to her mothers early demise. However, the commission deemed it not serious enough to investigate and Ms Hawes was frustrated by conciliation proceedings with Hunter New England Health. She said the commission should have to properly investigate all complaints to identify systemic failure. The mother of five and grandmother died from an infection in a heart valve, which was diagnosed too late. Though the condition is by nature difficult to diagnose, Ms Hawes said there were heart tests the year before that were never finalised while her mother was shuffled between … Continue reading

Gary Levin’s Natural Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Review Reveals New Effective Multiple Sclerosis Treatment

Posted: Published on July 14th, 2013

Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) July 14, 2013 http://www.SclerosisTreatment.com Exposes Dr. Gary M. Levin's Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Book, a step-by-step method that rehabilitates the immune system and boosts the supporting body systems to eliminate all MS symptoms. Natural Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Book provides people with an effective multiple sclerosis treatment, tips, safe methods, natural remedies, diet plans and detailed instructions that are easy to understand and follow. Gary Levin has been a medical researcher and a surgeon in the United States for over 30 years now, and 20 years have been dedicated to treating patients with multiple sclerosis. The main difference in this book is that Dr. Gary Levin provides information according to which MS is the deterioration of the myelin sheaths. This occurs when the immune system thinks that the myelin sheaths are a foreign intruder, which must be destroyed, and as a consequence electrical impulses are stopped or slowed as they travel through the body's nervous system. Dr. Gary M. Levin's Book brings into the public attention the causes of MS, symptoms, signs, types, treatments and prevention, stating that MS is one of the most discouraging and debilitating conditions anyone can ever have. This leads to patients loosing their muscular … Continue reading
