Police: Drugs involved in Alief triple shooting

Posted: Published on May 15th, 2013

Police said drugs appear to have played a role in a shooting Monday afternoon that a left a 10-year-old boy and a woman dead and the boy's father critically wounded at the victims' home in Alief. The wounded man's 14-year-old son found the victims when he returned to the home after school. The shooting happened about 4:15 p.m. in the 6600 block of Westwick, according to the Houston Police Department. Police said 29-year-old Le "Lena" Nguyen, 29, and Brandon Vu died at the scene. Brandon's 40-year-old father, Hoai Tranh Vu, was seriously wounded. He was rushed to Memorial Hermann hospital and was in critical condition. Police said the shooting is believed to be drug-related. But investigators did not release details that led them to that possibility. Witnesses told police they saw two men seen leaving the home in a hurry, driving away in a gray car. Houston police did not have a detailed description of the two men and only a minimal description of their car - an older model two- or four-door sedan painted silver or gray. Police said Brandon and Nguyen, the elder Vu's girlfriend, were found on the floor in an upstairs bedroom. Hoai Tranh Vu was … Continue reading

Newtown shooter had no drugs, alcohol in body

Posted: Published on May 15th, 2013

NEWTOWN, Conn., May 14 (UPI) -- Adam Lanza had no drugs or alcohol in his body when he shot and killed 20 students and six women at Sandy Hook Elementary School, toxicology tests show. The results of the tests are included in a final report by state Chief Medical Examiner Dr. H. Wayne Carver II that has been turned over to Connecticut state prosecutors, The Hartford Courant reported Monday. The tests did not find any traces of alcohol, illegal drugs or anti-psychotic or antidepressant drugs. The absence of drugs in Lanza's body indicated that "something else" made him commit the murders, said Dr. Michael Baden, the former chief medical examiner for New York City. The findings did not surprise former FBI profiler Mary Ellen O'Toole. Shooters in other recent killings also tested clean for drugs, she said, because they wanted a "clear head" during the attacks. A final report on the police investigation of the shootings should be released by the end of June, Danbury State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky said. Derrell was born April 2, 1926, to Milo and Catherine Collings Andersen in Fairview. He was the youngest of four children. Derrell was always a hard worker, but he still found time to enjoy nature on the back of his horse, Tony, in the mountains above the familys homesteads in Auburn and Grover. He and his family enjoyed participating in games and activities, and held fond memories of working together as a family. After graduating high school, Derrell served an LDS church mission in Denmark. Naples community reacts to Sunshine Pharmacy arrests

Former co-workers and neighbors react to Sunshine Pharmacy arrests EAST NAPLES, Fla - Del Parrish and his mother Patricia Parrish were arrested Tuesday morning and charged with conspiracy to commit health care fraud. Del Parrish's neighbors say his wife also works as a pharmacist at Sunshine Pharmacy and they have two young kids. WINK News was there as they got home Tuesday night, just a few hours after Parrish and his mother posted bail. We rang the doorbell, but now one came to the door. Patricia Parrish also declined an interview. Late Tuesday, Sunshine Pharmacy on Rattlesnake Hammock was back to normal. The open sign flashing and customers walking in and out. A former employee who wouldn't go on camera tells WINK News that she worked at the pharmacy for nine years. She says there were no red flags or signs Del and his mother were committing any sort of crime. The former employee says Del and Patricia are both very nice, good, kind people, but she also says she's not surprised by their arrest. Over the last couple of years, she noticed DEA was coming to the pharmacy and that's when people started to talk and ask questions. The … Continue reading

Walgreens-CVS Extend Pharmacy Deal

Posted: Published on May 15th, 2013

In the most recent strategic maneuver to boost its pharmacy network, Walgreens (WAG), the largest retail pharmacy chain in the U.S., extended its agreement as a network pharmacy provider in the CVS Caremark (CVS) pharmacy benefit management (PBM) retail network. The deal appears to be an attractive play to gain more clout in a tough competitive environment. The deal should improve customer traffic at Walgreens stores which failed to improve in recent months. It should also improve volumes at the companys comparable stores on the back of demographic tailwinds. While the financial details and terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the extended multi-year agreement is well aligned with Walgreens objectives. The companys multi-year agreement will support cost-effective pricing and fair reimbursement for services and value for patients and payers. Apart from CVS Caremark, Walgreens also has a multi-year agreement with the largest PBM in the U.S. Express Scripts (ESRX). After few months of fallout in 2012, Walgreens and Express Scripts announced a new multi-year agreement, effective Sep 15, 2013. Walgreens suffered a prolonged period of lean sales during the impasse, reflecting the importance of its inclusion in the pharmacy provider network of Express Scripts. There has been a lot of … Continue reading
