Sleep Behavior Disorder | Abnormal Sleep Behaviors – Video

Posted: Published on December 22nd, 2012

Sleep Behavior Disorder | Abnormal Sleep Behaviors http://www.sleepresourcecenter.org - Normal sleep has two distinct states: non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. NREM sleep is divided into four stages. During REM sleep, rapid eye movements occur, breathing becomes irregular, blood pressure rises, and there is loss of muscle tone (paralysis). However, the brain is highly active, and the electrical activity recorded in the brain by EEG during REM sleep is similar to that recorded during wakefulness. REM sleep is usually associated with dreaming. REM sleep accounts for 20%-25% of the sleep period. In a person with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), the paralysis that normally occurs during REM sleep is incomplete or absent, allowing the person to "act out" his or her dreams. RBD is characterized by the acting out of dreams that are vivid, intense, and violent. Dream-enacting behaviors include talking, yelling, punching, kicking, sitting, jumping from bed, arm flailing, and grabbing. An acute form may occur during withdrawal from alcohol or sedative-hypnotic drugs.From:SleepResourceCenterViews:1 0ratingsTime:00:53More inEducation See original here: Sleep Behavior Disorder | Abnormal Sleep Behaviors - Video … Continue reading

Top Sleep Frequencies | Frequency of Brain Waves – Video

Posted: Published on December 22nd, 2012

Top Sleep Frequencies | Frequency of Brain Waves http://www.sleepresourcecenter.org - Beta waves - EEG (brain) wave activity with a frequency of 13 to 35 hertz (cycles per second) that is typically seen in active wakefulness and also associated with taking psychotropic drugs, in which the eyes blink repeatedly. Brain-Wave Rhythms - Patterns of electrical activity of the brain. They include: Alpha Rhythms - Most consistent and predominant during relaxed wakefulness, particularly when your eyes are closed or you are in the dark. Alpha rhythms cycle eighteen times per second. Beta Rhythms - Usually associated with alert wakefulness. They are faster than Alpha waves, cycling about thirteen to thirty-five times per second. Delta Rhythms - Occur chiefly in deep sleep stages 3-4, also known as slow-sleep. Delta Rhythms cycle less than four times per second. Theta Rhythms - Associated with the light sleep stage 1 and 2. These cycle four to eight times per second.From:SleepResourceCenterViews:1 0ratingsTime:00:55More inEducation Originally posted here: Top Sleep Frequencies | Frequency of Brain Waves - Video … Continue reading

The Omen(2006)-RANT – Video

Posted: Published on December 22nd, 2012

The Omen(2006)-RANT My rant on the pointless piece of crap remake, The Omen(2006) starring Liev Schrieber, Julia Stiles, Mia Farrow, David Thewlis, Pete Postlewaithe, and Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick. Directed by John Moore Trivia The role of Katherine Thorn was originally offered to Rachel Weisz who declined because she was pregnant at the time. Other actresses considered for the part were Laura Linney, Hope Davis and Alicia Witt, before Julia Stiles who finally got the part. Stiles and Mia Farrow were both in a play together, and Stiles suggested to director John Moore that they use Farrow for the role of Mrs. Blaylock (Damien's nurse). Initially Moore didn't think that Farrow would accept the role, but Stiles convinced him she would. Eventually he just rang up Farrow at her home and offered her the part. James Nesbitt was originally up for the role of Jennings until the director eventually went for David Thewlis. Harvey Stephens, who portrayed Damien in The Omen, appears in this remake as the tabloid reporter who asks Robert Thorn if the deceased nanny "was on drugs". The studio originally wanted the film to receive a PG-13 rating but John Moore insisted on an R-rating, suggesting people … Continue reading

Drugs cannot be ruled out in Sandy Hook massacre

Posted: Published on December 22nd, 2012

ON FRIDAY December 14 in Newtown, Connecticut in the US, a 20-year-old gunman shot his mother to death, then walked to a nearby elementary (primary) school, and massacred 20 children, aged between six and seven, and six adults, before killing himself. Theories about what led Adam Lanza to commit such an horrific act have been spreading over ever wider, and wilder, fertile ground. Lanza killed his mother with her own gun one of five she owned, including a semi-automatic assault rifle that allowed him to fire dozens of high-velocity rounds in seconds, building up a quickly shocking tally of young victims. Not surprisingly, the first knee-jerk reaction was to target the powerful pro-gun lobby in the US, and raise mounting pressure to call for tougher gun controls. The US enjoys (if thats the right word under these tragic circumstances), a reputation as the country with the highest gun ownership rate in the world. Thats 89 guns for every 100 Americans, compared to a reported 12.7 in South Africa, according to a blog on The Guardians website in July (I would have thought its a lot higher than that), six in England and Wales, and just about zero (0.6) in Japan. … Continue reading
