In a recent survey carried out by support network the Hypnotherapy Directory, 59% of individuals seeking hypnosis for a sexual dysfunction had not been to a medical professional about their problem - with the majority citing embarrassment as the key factor.

Sex is a global industry worth billions. The desire for satisfaction has led to more Rampant Rabbits being sold since their invention than washing machines and tumble dryers combined, and our curiosity and want for inspiration has saucy novels such as Fifty Shades of Grey selling in their millions**. So why is it that as soon as someone mentions the word we come over all shy and bashful even more so if we know something is not quite right?

In order to find out a bit more about the kinds of issues which crop up between the sheets, Hypnotherapy Directory asked individuals who were visiting the website for help in this area to answer a few questions.

According to the results, 66% of individuals who were seeking help were male and 34% were female. A further breakdown revealed that 38% were suffering from loss of libido, 22% from erectile dysfunction and 7% from premature ejaculation.

In addition, 70% of survey respondents with a partner felt that their sexual issue had affected their relationship in some way. After all, sex serves several other functions aside from reproduction, including bonding and stress release.

With increasing demands being placed upon peoples time and energy it is not uncommon for one partner to be raring to go whilst the other would prefer to hit the snooze button, and if the problem is not how often, the next most common issue is how well its done.

Whatever the sexual issue might be, the first port of call should always be a visit to the doctor so that physical causes can be eliminated. Once it is clear that the problem is not physical, this is where hypnotherapy comes in.

So what can hypnotherapy actually do?

Whilst many individuals will naturally assume that a physical matter lies at the root of their problem, in actual fact many sexual dysfunctions are psychological with factors such as stress, anxiety, depression and past sexual abuse all coming into play.
