Harry Weller, 16, took on a six-mile walk for Harbour Cancer Support Centre in Gosport and raised more than 1,000 for the charity

Harry Weller, 16, completed a six-mile walk from Fareham College, where he is a student, to Harbour Cancer Support Centre in Stoke Road, Gosport.

Harry, an ex-student of Portchester Community School, said: I walked with my dad Keith and found the walk fun and I enjoyed it, especially the cup of tea from the team at Harbour Cancer Support.

I am over the moon with the amount of money I have raised and would like to thank everyone who took the time to sponsor me and to those who have helped me organise this event.

Donations rolled in from friends and family after Harry set up the challenge with the help of his student enrichment officer at college.

Harrys mum Karen said: We as a family are all extremely proud of Harry's achievement doing this event.

He is an extremely determined young man when he wants to achieve something and is always happy and smiling while doing it.

Harbour Cancer Support is an independent charity that offers practical and emotional support to anyone affected by any cancer across South East Hampshire, and relies on donations from fundraisers like Harry to keep services running.

Ellie Corp, charity administrator, said: On behalf of the charity we would like to say a massive thank you to Harry, everyone who has supported and sponsored him with his walk, it is an amazing achievement and Harry should be very proud of himself.

With Harry raising this great amount means Harbour Cancer Support can carry on supporting those who have been affected by cancer. Well done Harry!

The centre opened in 2001 and offers a safe haven for cancer patients, their families, carers and friends to go and spend time in a warm and welcoming environment.
