Fertile territory as new IVF clinic is born

Posted: Published on May 12th, 2014

IVF specialist Bourn Hall has started a fresh phase of expansion by opening a new fertility centre in Peterborough. The satellite clinic opened today and follows a previously announced 3.5 million investment by Mobeus Equity Partners to support Bourn Halls growth strategy. Bourn Hall is the leading provider of NHS-funded IVF treatment in the East of England. Last year saw record clinical pregnancy success rates among all patients across all of its clinics with more than half (55.8 per cent) of patients aged 37 or under becoming pregnant following IVF treatment at Bourn Hall. The figure is above the national average at a statistically significant rate according to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA). Although fertility declines with age, the results for women aged 38 and over were also excellent at 38.2 per cent clinical pregnancy rate. Peterborough was said to be the UKs fastest growing city and the one with the second highest private sector employment growth according to the recent Centre for Cities 2014 Outlook report. Dr Mike Macnamee, chief executive at Bourn Hall Clinic, said the Peterborough opening continued an exciting programme of expansion for the company. Over the last four years we have continued to … Continue reading

Debra Kulcsar is working toward a university degree in public administration, but the 35-year-old would rather be working to complete her family. When we got married, we wanted a dozen kids. Life didn't work out the way we wanted it to and now we have to try to make out the best, Kulcsar said. Kulcsar was diagnosed as being infertile shortly after she and her husband were married in 2003. She had a tumour on her pituitary gland a gland that regulates the bodys hormones. The couple has not been able to conceive despite years of trying. Kulcsar and her husband are candidates for in vitro fertilization a process that involves harvesting eggs from a woman and fertilizing them outside the body before implanting them into the uterus. The procedure appeals to many couples, but comes at a cost. Each IVF treatment can range anywhere from $10,000 to $12,000, and many couples require two to three treatments despite the procedures high success rate. There are many couples who are not able to access treatment because, financially, its not an option for them. There are many, many couples who access treatment and build their families through IVF who end up with … Continue reading

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) | Infertility Treatment

Posted: Published on May 9th, 2014

Many couples who have fertility problems have been able to conceive a child through the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Our Centers treat patients whose fertility has been impaired by conditions such as tubal problems, endometriosis, male factor infertility, unexplained infertility, and for those who have failed other prior fertility treatments. During traditional IVF, you take several medications so you will develop multiple ovarian follicles that contain mature eggs capable of fertilization. This process is monitored using blood tests and vaginal ultrasounds. Mature eggs are retrieved through a simple procedure under ultrasound guidance. The retrieved eggs are then exposed to sperm in the laboratory and one or more of the resulting embryos are transferred back into your uterus. The following ancillary services are also often performed as part of IVF treatment: ICSI, or assisted fertilization, is a procedure that has dramatically improved the treatment of severe male factor infertility. A relatively common cause of infertility in couples is a low sperm count. With ICSI, a single sperm can be injected into the egg resulting in a significantly higher likelihood of fertilization. This process is used in conjunction with IVF to address male factor and other causes of infertility. Assisted hatching … Continue reading

IVF Treatment | In Vitro Fertilization | Costs & Timeline

Posted: Published on May 9th, 2014

Just three decades ago, in vitro fertilization (IVF) was an alien concept worthy of science fiction books. With the birth of the first baby conceived through IVF treatment- Louise Joy Brown who was born in Oldham, Greater Manchester on the 25th July 1978 it is now a household word. As many as 3 percent of live births in the United States were because of IVF treatments although it must be emphasized that the method still has its fair share of ethical and legal issues. For infertile couples who confuse the IVF method with artificial insemination, these two assisted reproduction techniques are actually different. While artificial insemination involves placing the sperm into the uterus such that natural fertilization happens, the IVF technique involves the fertilization of the egg with the sperm outside of the body particularly in a test tube in vitro means in the glass. This explains the test tube baby reference to Louise Brown and all the 200,000-strong IVF babies that came after her. Who Are Suitable for the Treatment? But not everybody is suitable for IVF treatment. Doctors have to perform several tests to determine the cause of infertility on one hand and the readiness of the couple … Continue reading

Dunya IVF Announced That Baby Gender Selection Is Becoming Hugely Popular for Couples Willing to Travel to Cyprus for It

Posted: Published on May 2nd, 2014

(PRWEB UK) 1 May 2014 Dunya IVF is focusing on the fact that due to regulatory limitations only a few countries in the world offer this treatment. One of the very few countries in Europe to offer gender selection is Cyprus. Dunya IVF Clinic has been operating since 2005 and have successfully performed thousands of IVF procedures with several hundred of them being for gender selection, according to its logs. As Dunya IVF clinic explains for couples going through this treatment the procedure is relatively simple. They undergo a normal IVF procedure with the exception of only the embryos of the desired gender being transferred to the expecting mother. In order for the gender of the embryo to be known before the transfer, a genetic testing is performed. This involves checking the embryos for the X/Y chromosome. In addition to the X/Y chromosome, usually several other chromosomes are checked during this genetic testing to ensure the embryos are also free from genetic diseases like Downs syndrome and Trisomy. Therefore, couples wishing to do gender selection (PGD - Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) also will have the added benefit of knowing that the embryos are free from these genetic diseases. Today, the accuracy … Continue reading

Mumbai has 42% of state’s IVF centres: Study

Posted: Published on April 28th, 2014

Mumbai has as many as 180 in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinics, the latest internal study of the Maharashtra state health department has stated. The department has traced a total of 428 IVF centres in Maharashtra. The city is a mushrooming hub of IVF activity, what with 42 per cent of all IVF centres in the state located in Mumbai, said state health department officials. The department is tightening its grip on the IVF centres' functioning and aims to bring health tests conducted by them under the ambit of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. The state health department authorities have claimed that certain tests used in the IVF procedure may be used by doctors to detect the sex of child. IVF treatment currently is unchecked, unsupervised and not regularised and there is currently no law that governs it or surrogacy. There are only guidelines made by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) which do not carry the weightage of a law, or penalty upon non-implementation. In lieu of this laxity, the department hired a private agency to account for IVF centres through a survey. Dr Asaram Khade, state nodal officer of the PCPNDT cell, told dna, "There are … Continue reading

Rise In Women Taking On Motherhood Alone

Posted: Published on April 27th, 2014

By Emma Birchley, Sky News Correspondent A growing number of single women are seeking fertility treatment as the route to motherhood. For those unable to find a partner, IVF and donor insemination are increasingly being seen as a viable option. Lisa Mead, who is 41, first considered adopting in 2006 but when the process was held up, decided to try for her own child, despite not being in a relationship. She is now mother to Lennie, who is two, and five-month-old Bebe, both conceived with the help of a donor from America. "All the women I know who have gone down this path, I don't think that any of them imagined they would be in that situation," she said. "They all imagined they would meet a nice man and it would be how it would pan out how you expect ... you get married, you have kids. "I don't think anybody has gone about it because they don't want a man around and a lot of women are hoping a nice man will turn up now the children are there, but the pressure is off to find that person in the time you have got in order to become a … Continue reading
