The FDA has cleared two new Siemens Healthineers angiography systems, designed to cover a wide variety of procedures, from neuroradiology to interventional cardiology.

The ARTIS icono biplane angiography system is designed for minimally-invasive procedures that require imaging within the neuroradiology space, such as stroke and cerebral aneurysms. The ARTIS icono floor single-plane system is designed for vascular, interventional cardiology, surgical and oncology procedures.

Both systems use Siemens new OPTIQ image chain, which increases 2D image quality while keeping dose low. There is also an improved roadmap function that creates subtracted angiography images to more easily navigate the patients vascular system and reduce dose during fluoroscopy exams.

Its designed to be easily adaptive so that different clinical teams can use the same room for multiple types of interventions, Lara Barghout, senior vice president and head of advanced therapies for Siemens Healthineers North America, told HCB News. Prior to the ARTIS icono, you would have a separate neuro room, a separate IR room, and a separate cardiology room. Personalization is really key because now you have clinicians with different specialties who are providing care within the same workspace.

With better visualization of difficult-to-delineate structures, syngo DynaCT Sine Spin, provides images with fewer artifacts in the basal part of the brain, while syngo DynaCT High Speed shortens 3D imaging time. Because of this, the ARTIS icono biplane system is particularly well suited for timely treatment of ischemic stroke patients, Barghout said.

There are parts of the brain and vessels that neurovascular surgeons and interventionalists were not able to see before, Barghout said. With better visualization, youre able to treat faster.

The ARTIS icono floor supports imaging capabilities that are similar to a more expensive ceiling-mounted system, but with more flexibility and a small, 269-square-foot footprint. It provides coverage of patients up to six feet eight inches tall without the need for repositioning, and 6.23 feet of lateral coverage for radial access.

By listening to customer feedback, the new features we added in the product will help physicians use it much more efficiently, optimizing their workflow with better quality in how theyre treating patients. It is truly going to have a revolutionary impact on our customers and the delivery of healthcare, Barghout said.
