Tumour removed from heart – Telegraph India

Apollo Hospitals, Guwahati, performed a heart tumour removal surgery through minimally invasive approach for the first time in the entire Northeast recently.

This complex surgery was performed on a 54-year-old female patient from Sivasagar district of Upper Assam.

The hospital authority on Tuesday said senior cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Dr Jyoti Prasad Kalita and his team successfully performed the procedure.

The patient came to the hospital after she had trouble breathing difficulties because of the tumour in her heart.

The tumour was very large which was inside the left chamber of the heart and it was occluding a heart valve.

The benefit of performing the surgery through MICS (minimally invasive cardiac surgery) is that the post-operative recovery time is very less with less pain and less blood loss.

The patient had recovered well and was discharged safely from the hospital.

MICS CABG (coronary bypass surgery) or MICAS (minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery) is a newer form of heart bypass surgery in India.

It is a relatively new and advanced technique of performing coronary bypass for the treatment of coronary heart diseases, Kalita told The Telegraph.
