Organizations will host first Cardio-Oncology International Virtual Symposium

WASHINGTON (Sept. 9, 2020) Join the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (SBC) for the first Cardio-Oncology International Virtual Symposium on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020 at 7:30 a.m. Brazil Time (BRT)/8:30 a.m. Eastern Time (EDT). Cancer and cardiovascular disease are two leading causes of death around the world. Cardiovascular risk factors and disease are prevalent across different types of cancer and are relevant to many cancer treatment regimens, which led to the development of the field of cardio-oncology. Important clinical and research efforts are focused on the prediction, diagnosis, treatment and management of cardiovascular risk factors and disease in cancer patients and survivors.

The ACC and SBC seek to expand cardio-oncology education among the medical community and will convey current knowledge and best practices through this collaborative seminar. ACC Immediate Past President Richard Kovacs, MD, MACC, and SBC President Marcelo Queiroga, MD, FACC, along with other leaders from both organizations will welcome participants to join sessions on radiation therapy and cardiovascular complications, childhood cancer survivors, and more.

Bonnie Ky, MD, MSCE, FACC, editor-in-chief ofJACC: CardioOncology, will discuss What is Cardio-Oncology? along with hosting a journal club discussing recent articles published in the journal.JACC: CardioOncologyis dedicated to publishing the best available and impactful scientific and clinical evidence in the field.

SBC will present the Second Brazilian Guidelines on Cardio-Oncology, as well as the European Society for Medical Oncology guidelines during the symposium.

Ky serves as scientific coordinator of the symposium, along with Ludhmila Hajjar, MD, PhD, an international advisor forJACC: CardioOncologyfrom the Universidade de So Paulo.
