Facility provides help for those struggling with chemical dependency

Posted: Published on April 4th, 2013

BUTTE - Addiction counselors say people fighting drug and alcohol addictions may be reluctant to ask for help. "What people in society see as an addicted person's problem is the addicted person's solution to their problem," said Bill Foster, a licensed addictions counselor at the Butte-Silver Bow Drug Addiction Treatment Facility. "If we had better coping mechanisms and better solutions, we wouldn't be drinking and using." The Butte Silver Bow Drug Addiction Treatment Facility can offer solutions. The facility provides outpatient rehab and treatment for men, women and adolescents, according to Foster. The services are not free, but they are income based. Patients must be in a place where they are willing to help themselves and ready to quit using, Foster said. The facility recently started a group for people ages 55 and older. Counselors say there is a stigma in Butte for people with drug and alcohol addictions. The facility is located at 25 West Front Street, Butte, MT 59701. You can reach the facility at (406)497-5070. The trial of Michael Philpott and his wife Mairead is over, and they have been convicted of multiple manslaughter. This was one of the most horrible crimes committed against children in Britain in recent years. It was cynical. It was calculating. And it was done out of malice in a ham-fisted plot which went wrong. The trial spoke volumes about the sheer nastiness of the individuals involved. But it also lifted the lid on the bleak and often grotesque world of the welfare benefit scroungers of whom there are not dozens, not hundreds, but tens of thousands in our country. Prescription Drug Abuse Rates Increase in the Western United States, Northwest Now Leading Area of Epidemic

Posted: Published on April 2nd, 2013

A new study conducted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and published in the Wall Street Journal revealed that the prescription painkiller epidemic (which has been prevalent throughout the Eastern and Southern United States for years) recently showed a statistical increase in the Western region of the country, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. Malibu, CA (PRWEB) April 01, 2013 It is alarming that with all of the educational and prevention efforts regarding painkiller abuse, the problem is still increasing in some areas, said Pax Prentiss, CEO and co-founder of the Passages Addiction Treatment Centers in Malibu and Ventura, California. At Passages, we treat people dependent on prescription medications from all over the country. Unfortunately, prescription drugs are now more common than all other illegal drugs and street narcotics combined. Western states including Idaho, Oregon, and Washington have had a long running public problem with methamphetamine production particularly in more rural areas and drug enforcement agencies theorize that the time and resources spent combating meth abuse and production has allowed the influx of prescription pain killers to go relatively unnoticed. According to SAMHSA, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and Idaho now have the highest rates of prescription drug abuse … Continue reading

The Ford Street Project Alcohol and Drug Treatment for Veterans got underway in August with a $130,000 federally-funded contract to support veterans to get clean and sober and usher them into productive, meaningful lives. Mark Messerer, Ford Street Program Director, oversees the operation. He is a veteran himself of this kind of work having been a senior Mendocino County Drug and Alcohol Program therapist for seven years, a Lake County Alcohol and Drug Services treatment coordinator for five years and more than five years in his present position. Touring the Ford Street facility Messerer says, "We are a 32-bed licensed and certified residential treatment and detoxification facility." He points out the sweat lodge structure where sweats are led three times a month by local tribal elders and the four townhouse units for participants of family dependency drug court. They house men, women and couples involved with Child Protective Services cases in the process of reunifying with their children working in partnership with Alcohol and Other Drug Programs and the courts. One participant in the new program, a 52-year-old veteran, has been there for more than 90 days. He was previously living in Eureka, homeless and on probation. "About a year … Continue reading

Architect Building a Drug -Free Future for Israeli Youth

Posted: Published on March 29th, 2013

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 28, 2013 The 40 high school students and their teachers who attended a three-hour seminar at the Center of Scientology for Tel Aviv last week came away with a conviction to leave harmful substances alone. The seminar was presented by Ayelet Mallis Cohen, an architect and interior designer who also coordinates the Truth About Drugs education and prevention program the Center supports. Since the Center of Scientology for Tel Aviv opened in spacious new quarters in August 2012, its facilities for outreach activities, seminars and community programs have enabled the Truth About Drugs to take on entirely new dimensions. The high school students attending the seminar last week watched drug prevention public service announcements and The Truth About DrugsReal People, Real Stories documentary, and each took home a boxed set of the 13 Truth About Drugs educational booklets. Cohen reaches out to Jewish, Arab and Druze leaders to provide the many varied communities in Israel with the facts that will help youth avoid alcohol and drug dependency. We are succeeding in changing childrens minds about drugs and alcohol. This has given the teachers and educators we work with new hope, says Cohen. I really want … Continue reading

Posted: Published on March 29th, 2013

April is National Alcohol Awareness Month, an observance put on by the NCAAD (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) that promotes knowledge and education regarding all aspects of alcohol abuse and addiction. National Alcohol Awareness Month is in its 27th official year, with the slogan for 2013 being: Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow. Malibu, CA (PRWEB) March 29, 2013 Alcohol Awareness Month is designed to increase public consciousness and reduce stigma surrounding alcohol dependency and addiction issues. National Alcohol Awareness Month is an excellent outlet to educate people about the huge weight of alcohol addiction and abuse in our society, said Pax Prentiss, CEO and co-founder of the Passages Addiction Treatment Centers in Malibu and Ventura, California. Through events like Alcohol Awareness Month, people become more educated about what causes addiction and other co-occurring disorders, causing stigmas to diminish and the quality of treatment to improve, explained Prentiss. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), more than 18 million Americans (8.5% of the population) suffer from alcohol dependency or alcohol abuse issues, and 25% of children have been exposed to alcohol abuse within their families. One of the main aims of Alcohol Awareness Month … Continue reading
