Cleveland Clinics annual Medical Innovation Summit to focus on caring for every life – cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio Healthcare challenges of the future and the ways that innovation and technology can be harnessed to solve them are the focus of the upcoming Medical Innovation Summit, sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic.

This years theme is, Caring for Every Life Through Innovation, the Clinic said in a press release. The 17th annual event runs Saturday through Wednesday at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, 300 Lakeside Ave.

More than 100 speakers and leaders from more than 20 countries attend the summit for networking sessions, pitch sessions, pediatric success stories and an announcement of the 10 medical innovations in 2020. Keynote speakers from Amazon Web Services, Anthem, Microsoft, CVS Health and other businesses will share insights and inspiration.

Featured tracks will explore innovation, such as ways to use augmented reality and virtual reality to change health care. Impact sessions throughout the event will focus on cardiology, neurology, metabolic disorders and oncology.

On Tuesday, Dr. Tom Mihaljevic, Clinic president and CEO, will explain how the hospital system plans to use one of its core values, innovation, to accomplish its goals.

Mihaljevic also is the moderator of Night @HEC, an evening session at the new Health Education Campus near University Circle. This fireside chat features remarks from Eric Lefkofsky, founder and CEO of Tempus, a leading provider of technology enabled precision medicine solutions. Lefkofsky also is a founding partner of the venture fund Lightbank, and co-founder and chairman of Groupon, a website that offers coupons and discounts.

The summit closes with the unveiling of the Top 10 medical innovations expected to have the greatest impact in 2020.

Dr. Michael Roizen, emeritus chief wellness officer at the Clinic, and a panel of Clinic staff will announce the innovations Wednesday.

Partner events that are taking place under the Medical Innovation Summits umbrella include the Cleveland Medical Hackathon, the Value-Based Innovation Summit, the AMPD Arena Pitch Competition, Plug and Play Clevelands Health Expo Day and the Nursing Innovation Summit.

The Cleveland Medical Hackathon encourages health care providers and community members to join an all-night, problem-solving session. This years hackathon will focus on the challenges of health care provider burnout, aging in place and mental health. Teams have just 48 hours to brainstorm ideas and get them ready for a presentation.

The Value-Based Innovation Summit will gather leaders in value-based health care redesign and innovation. The Nursing Innovation Summit will encourage nurses to become innovative thinkers.
