The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has approved Medical City Fort Worths Interventional Cardiology Fellowship program for initial accreditation status, as of January 2018.

(2) ACGME Approved Positions

The Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Medical City Fort Worth is designed to provide the trainee with high quality instruction and experience in interventional cardiology. The volume is high in both cardiac and peripheral interventions. The program is 12 months in duration. Residents may be accepted into the program only after successfully completing three years of general Internal Medicine training and three years of general Cardiology training. The base training institution is Medical City Fort Worth.

The curriculum includes a core of didactics, which are molded after the core competencies in the COCATS document. These didactics will be delivered through the cardiology lecture series presented by Faculty and Cardiology Fellows which include weekly cardiac catheterization conferences, cardiology conferences, journal club, and daily academic rounds on all rotations.

The goals of the interventional cardiology Fellowship include: Identification of cardiology disease states that are amenable to catheter-based intervention; development of the medical knowledge and technical skill to perform appropriate catheter-based interventions and to provide appropriate pre- and post-procedure care. Continuity outpatient clinic training is provided at the base teaching site as well as at affiliate sites (in the ambulatory care facilities of the teaching faculty).

The core curriculum is based on the recommendations of the American College of Cardiology COCATS training document. The program is designed to provide educational and experiential input from a broad range of specialty providers at Medical City Fort Worth. At the successful completion of the program, the Fellow will have received adequate instruction and experience to qualify for Level 3 skills in interventional cardiology.

Fellows complete a I year training program with every month based in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Working hours are generally 7:00am - 7:00pm. Fellows receive 20 days of paid time off which can be used for vacation, personal needs, sick time and holidays.

All fellows will receive a $3,000 educational allowance each contract year.

Medical City Fort Worth will fill two PGY 7 positions each year. Resident candidates will complete the application provided by the Department of Graduate Medical Education at Medical City Fort Worth. We do not sponsor H1B visa and only accept J1 visa sponsored through ECFMG.

Qualified applicants will be asked to interview on site at Medical City Fort Worth. The Program Director of Interventional Cardiology will conduct these interview sessions. The candidate will be notified in writing of the acceptance. All candidates who submitted a completed application and were not selected will be notified in writing as soon as possible.

To request an application, and for more information, please contact fellowship coordinator Kavina Bhula.
