911 call: 10-year-old boy would hurt self, had mental health issues, father said – WHIO

DAYTON A man who called 911 before the death of a 10-year-old Dayton boy told the dispatcher that his son had mental health issues and would hurt himself.The man, who was identified as Al-Mutahan McLean in court documents, said that his son was unresponsive and barely breathing at first.McLean was indicted on four counts of endangering children, two counts of felonious assault and one count of rape Monday.

Medics responded to the 1900 block of Kensington Drive around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, according to dispatch records.

The boy, identified as Takoda Collins in court records, was taken to Dayton Childrens Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During the 911 call, the dispatcher told the man to lay the boy on the ground and watch his chest for signs of breathing.

Its not rising up and down, the man said. Hes got something coming out of his mouth...Im not sure what it is.

The dispatcher then told the man to lay the boy on his side and try to clean out his mouth.

Yes maam, he said. Its a lot in his air passage maam.

He also said the boys breath smelled real rotten and that the child has a lot of medical issues.

Just mental behavior, he said. He just hurts himself all the time. He wakes up, doesnt get his way, slams his head...It never ends.

When asked if the boy mightve taken something the caller said that he didnt give him anything.

After trying to move the boy onto his back again, the man said something started coming out of the boys nose.

The dispatcher asked the man to clear the boys air passages as best as possible so they can start CPR.

After a few rounds of breaths and chest compressions, the man told the dispatcher that an ambulance had arrived and he was going to let medics inside the home.

McLeans girlfriend, Amanda Hinze, and her sister, Jennifer Ebert, were charged with four counts of endangering children. Charges against the women will be presented to a grand jury, according to the prosecutors office.

McLean physically and emotionally abused Takoda while Hinze and Ebert allowed it and at times reported to McLean if Takoda was not doing what he was supposed to, a court affidavit said.

The cause and manner of the boys death are pending, said the coroners office.
