Ambulance Driver Drove 65 plus Km in 40 mins to save Patient having Massive Heart Attack

Ambulance Driver Hameed Drives 65 Km in 40 mins from a private hospital in Ujire, near Dharmasthala to Kasturba Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru to save Patient of Massive Heart Attack, and was successfully treated by Interventional Cardiologist Dr Padmanabha Kamath- HoD of Cardiology dept, KMC, Mangaluru.

Mangaluru: Recalling the headline news in media a few days ago about a driver who was felicitated, where he drove a KMCC ambulance, leaving Father Muller Hospital, Mangaluru to Bengalurus Jayadeva Hospital, thereby saving a 40-day-old infant from Mangaluru, suffering from a heart-related ailment. The ambulance started from Mangaluru at 12.05 pm and reached Jayadeva hospital in Bengaluru in the evening at 4.35 pm on zero traffic. Haneef Balanja, hailing from Guruvayanakere in Belthangady taluk was felicitated for his efforts. As a Bengaluru KMCC ambulance driver, Haneef has earlier also received Best Ambulance Driver Award from Kerala government road safety division.

Brave Effort of a Real saviour! Ambulance Driver Hameed felicitated by KMC

Just like Haneef, we now have yet another ambulance driver Hameed from DK, who successfully brought a 40-year-old patient, suffering from massive heart attack, from a private hospital in Ujire in Belthangady taluk to Kasturba Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru, in 40 minutes covering 65 km during a regular traffic movement, plus roads under construction work. As per sources, the patient from Chikkaballapura, who was on his way to Dharmasthala, fell ill when his vehicle reached Sakleshpur on Saturday. The doctor of a Ujire private hospital suggested that the patients relatives shift him to KMC Hospital, Mangaluru immediately. Just in time, ambulance driver Hameed came to their rescue, who transferred the patient in his ambulance to Mangaluru, covering nearly 65 km in just 40 mins, thereby saving the patients life.

Interventional Cardiologist Dr Padmanabha Kamath- the Hod of Cardiology Dept at KMC, Mangaluru who treated the patient and managed to open the artery and restore flow, speaking to Team Mangalorean said, When a 40-year-old tourist from Chikballapur sustained a massive heart attack somewhere near Sakleshpur little did he knew that life will take a different turn. When he reached Dharmasthala his tourist destination, the chest pain had peaked and he visited the nearest hospital for treatment. It was a massive heart attack and he was advised to go to Mangaluru for further treatment.

Patient had very low Blood Pressure and his condition was extremely grave. That time entered our real saviour Hameed the ambulance driver. After pre-medication, Hameed started his 65 plus km journey fully knowing the odds are against him. The roads are all dug up as there is double lane project underway. He drew at a rapid pace under very treacherous conditions to reach Mangaluru within 40 mins. The real drama unfolded then. When the patient was being shifted to emergency his heart stopped due to VF( fatal condition).

Because the patient was within the emergency room shock treatment was delivered and heart beating was restored. Later on, we intervened and managed to open the artery and restore flow. The patient thanked me after the procedure and said doctoryou are my saviour with tears in his eyes. I told him your real saviour is the ambulance driver Hameed and showed him the picture of where we had felicitated Hameed. We need to thank all these ambulance drivers who are taking chances and risking their lives and also patients they carry, driving over-speed in chaotic traffic, in order to save lives, added Dr Kamath.

Team Mangalorean congratulates ambulance drivers Haneef and Hameed for their service in saving patients lives- they are the Real Heroes, next to doctors!
