Anand Mahindra believes we may be confronting a mental health crisis. Here's why

New Delhi: The long lockdown, self-quarantine has definitely rattled a lot of people. Extroverts especially have been questioning their sanitythe more they are keeping themselves isolated due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis. In the last couple of weeks, most of us have felt at least once or twice that we are losing brain cells. Well, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra believes so too.

On Saturday, news reports surfaced that a resident of Pimpri-Chinchwad of Pune district, Shankar Kurade, has got himself a mask made of gold worth Rs 2.89 lakh. Note that with Covid-19 restrictions easing and more people venturing out of their homes, most Indian states have made wearing masks compulsory. Kurade took this to another level by getting himself a gold mask worth nearly Rs 3 lakh.

Talking about how the idea of getting a gold mask struck him, the business said that he saw a video of a man wearing a silver mask on social media following which he contacted his jeweller to get a custom-made gold mask for himself. "I saw a video on social media of a man in Kolhapur wearing a silver mask and then an idea struck me to have a mask of gold. I talked to a goldsmith and he gave me this five and a half pound gold mask in a week. It's a thin mask with minute holes so that there is no difficulty in breathing. I am not sure whether this mask will be effective," said Kurade.

The news report reached social media and seeing the bizarre incident, Anand Mahindra tweeted, "I dont think we need any stronger evidence that we may be confronting a mental health crisis..."

It is no secret that Mahindra is one of the most active Indian businessmen on social media. Recently when the Indian government announced a ban on 59 Chinese apps in the country, including TikTok, Mahindra came across an unsavoury tweet by Hu Xijin, editor in chief of a Chinese publication and his response to said tweet roused a round of virtual applause.

Xijin, in his tweet, said, "Well, even if Chinese people want to boycott Indian products, they can't really find many Indian goods. Indian friends, you need to have some things that are more important than nationalism." In a befitting response to the tweet, Mahindra said, "I suspect this comment might well be the most effective & motivating rallying cry that India Inc. has ever received. Thank you for the provocation. We will rise to the occasion..."

It is worth mentioning that Anand Mahindra has been very 'vocal about local' meaning has been supportive of Indian companies and products, which is not new since Mahindra has always advocated and encouraged indigenous manufacturing, i.e. Make in India.
