NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone's The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF) has been honoured with the Dr Guislain 'Breaking the Chains of Stigma' Award for 2019 in Ghent, Belgium on Friday.

Founded by the 'Piku' actress in 2015, the non-profit organisation received the award for its efforts to change the dialogue around mental illness in India. The foundation, that was selected from among a global list of nominees by the worlds leading mental health researchers and academicians, will also get $50,000 cash prize to expand the scope of its work.

Deepika Padukone's sister and professional golf player Anisha Padukone (L) and Anna Chandy (R), Chaiperson of TLLLF, pose with Dr Guislain 'Breaking the Chains of Stigma' Award. In India, around 57 million people are affected by depression. According to general medical journal The Lancet, one in five Indians will suffer from depression during their lifetime. And, Padukone feels that this award validates the foundation's work towards creating awareness about mental illness.

The award is an initiative of the Dr Guislain Museum in Ghent, Belgium, and Janssen Research and Development. The Dr Guslain Award highlights an individual, project or organisation that has made an exceptional contribution to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
