Patty Burnaman reporting...

With so much going on, during this time of mandatory social isolation, Dr. Bruce Wilson, Cardiologist at West Jefferson Medical Center, reminds us to take care of our mental health as well.

My favorite mindfulness tip is gratitude. Just the act of being grateful and expressing gratitude releases mood-elevating chemicals and lowers stress hormones.

Dr. Wilson says, for example, this alone time can be used for planning on how to achieve our dreams, for well-deserved rest and relaxation, or for rebuilding family dynamics. Good mental health leads to good physical health, and we can take this time to get healthy.

Go outside, get some sunshine, and take a couple of deep breaths. Take this time to show your family as much love as you can, think about making healthy choices, like an at-home exercise plan or eating healthier.

When we all get back to normal, you will have a head-start on positive changes in your physical and mental health.
