J&J MedTech, NVIDIA team up on AI acceleration in surgery – Medical Device Network

Johnson & Johnson MedTech (J&J MedTech) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with NVIDIA to expedite the deployment and scaling of AI in surgical settings.

This partnership aims to improve real-time surgical data analysis and expand the global availability of AI algorithms for surgical decision-making, education, and connected operating rooms collaboration.

The MoU will see the integration of NVIDIAs healthcare AI platform with J&J MedTechs surgical technologies.

These technologies will enable quick, secure, and real-time deployment of AI through J&J MedTechs digital surgery ecosystem.

J&J MedTech worldwide chairman and executive vice-president Tim Schmid said: J&J MedTech is advancing healthcare toward a future thats more connected and personalised.

This future will be increasingly enabled by digital technologies that deliver efficiency, inform decision-making, and extend surgical training and education. The NVIDIA IGX edge computing and the NVIDIA Holoscan edge AI platforms will provide the necessary infrastructure to implement AI-powered software applications in the operating room.

These platforms are designed to deliver ultra-low latency, which is essential in surgical environments where every second counts.

J&J MedTech plans to leverage AI technologies to broaden its open ecosystem for surgery.

J&J MedTech digital global head and vice-president Shan Jegatheeswaran said: Bringing advanced edge computing hardware and software to the OR enables scalability of innovation and new AI-powered solutions for clinical decision-making, education and training, and collaboration with the ultimate goal of advancing patient care.

Last month, J&J MedTech launched its TECNIS PureSee IOL in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa region.
