November 10, 2020 -Siemens Healthineers and University of Iowa Health Care (UI Healthcare) recently established a ten-year Value Partnership to provide Iowans with access to cutting-edge medical imaging technology.

The partnership will also leverage artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve performance and efficiency of medical imaging, expand research opportunities, and invest in workforce training and development for staff and students.

Medical technology is changing fast. Take imaging scanners, for example. They are like carsthe engineering and technology gets better every year, and every now and then something radical and new comes along, said Colin Derdeyn, MD, FACR, Krabbenhoft professor and chair of the Department of Radiology and director at Iowa Institute of Biomedical Imaging at UI Healthcare.

Partnering with Siemens Healthineers will help us stay at the forefront of these advances that will span across the entire enterprise, benefiting faculty from Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Neurosciences, Orthopedics, Cardiology and the College of Engineering.

The partnership will provide workforce solutions, including the Siemens Healthineers Technologist Education Program, the PEPconnections digital learning platform, and a Healthcare Workforce Development Series to boost the colleges education and training program.

This will allow UI Health Care staff and students to access technical knowledge and develop skills that will be needed for patient-centered care.

Siemens Healthineers noted that the University of Iowa is a major pipeline for radiology technologists and sonographers working at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and throughout the state.

Investing in this program through strategic partnerships such as this one is an investment in the quality of Iowas healthcare and future workforce, said Derdeyn.

David Pacitti, president and head of the Americas at Siemens Healthineers, added that expanding their work with UI Health Care will improve care for patients within the health system and increase Iowans access to the latest technology and help build out a pipeline of technologist talent to meet the states workforce needs over the next decade.

Siemens Healthineers and UI Health Care ultimately aim to improve specialty care in the state of Iowa and improve operational processes by implementing innovative technologies.

These technologies include the Corinus CorPath GRX for robotic-assisted vascular interventions and syngo Virtual Cockpit for remote scanning access.

Healthcare organizations are constantly looking to improve patient experience, increase data interoperability, and deliver virtual care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the start of the pandemic, 54 percent of healthcare professionals were open to receiving virtual healthcare from traditional medical care providers, according to the 2020 AccentureDigital Health Consumer Researchreport.

By April, a majority of providers had transitioned to virtual care and consumers supported this move.

Similar to its Value Partnership with UI Health Care, Siemens Healthineers and Geisinger established a ten-year Value Partnership back in June to advance and support digital healthcare providers for providers, patients, and communities.

With its expertise in medical technology, Siemens Healthineers stated that it would provide Geisinger access to its latest digital health innovations, diagnostic imaging equipment, and on-site staff to support improvements during the length of the partnership.

Geisinger staff will be able to make decisions and optimize workflows through education and resources. Siemens Healthineers stated that it is dedicated to this long-term alliance, which produces impactful benefits for the patients who trust Geisinger for care and community.

Making better health easier by bringing world-class care close to home is central to everything we do at Geisinger, Matthew Walsh, chief operating officer at Geisinger, said in the June announcement.

This partnership will allow us to continue to equip our facilities with the most advanced diagnostic imaging technology in the market to care for our patients.
